Berzerk and Local MP Join Forces to Highlight Importance of Active Play 

Trilogy Active, who owns and operates Berzerk Active Play at Moulton Park in the town welcomed Mike Reader, the Member of Parliament for Northampton South, through their doors last week. 
 
Trilogy Active operates Cripps Recreation Centre, Danes Camp, Duston Sports Centre, Lings Forum, The Mounts Baths and the Forum Cinema as well as Berzerk Active Play Centres in Northampton, Derby and Birmingham and Belper Leisure Centre in the Midlands. 
 
“We believe, support, promote and deliver evidenced based active play that benefits the cognitive, social and physical development of children across Northampton and the U.K.” said Managing Director of Trilogy Active John Fletcher. 
 
“We’re breaking down the out-dated stereotypes that ‘soft’ play used to have and we’re sharing our work with decision makers like Mike to ensure the real difference active play can make in the health of the nation’s children.” 
 
As a not-for-profit organisation Trilogy Active operates Active Play facilities across the Midlands with venues in Northampton, Derby and Birmingham. They work in partnership and deliver services for Local Authorities, the NHS and Universities in the communities that they serve. 
 
“I was pleased to be invited to Berzerk Active Play centre and hear about the great work that John Fletcher and his team deliver for children and families across Northampton and the East Midlands.” said Mike Reader, Member of Parliament for Northampton South. “Active Play benefits the cognitive, social and physical development of children and Trilogy Active are delivering great work and highlighting the real difference this makes.”

Trilogy Active are members of national lobby group Play England who believe and promote in a child’s ‘Freedom to play.’ 
 
Play England campaign for England to be a child-friendly country where all children and young people have freedom to play at home, at school, in parks and public spaces. 
 
They believe all children and young people should have freedom — time, space, permission and opportunity — to play indoors and outdoors and everyone is aware of the importance of play. 
 
During the visit Mike Reader heard about the work of Trilogy Active and its Berzerk Active Play centres across the East Midlands including in Birmingham and Derby. 
 
The Member of Parliament also discussed the importance of raising the profile of active play in Westminster to ensure the Government recognises its vital role in the future health and well-being of the nation’s children. 
 
As part of their commitment to the community that they serve, Trilogy Active delivers specialist and dedicated Active Play S.E.N.D sessions and the Holiday and Activities and Food Programme (HAF) for families in receipt of free school meals through holiday periods at its Active Play Centres. 
 
“We will continue to deliver, support and promote the evidence-based benefits of Active Play, in both structured and ‘just play’ environments, to the community that we serve.” John Fletcher continued. “We will continue to work alongside local and national decision makers as a fundamental part of the health and well-being of children in the UK.”

Birmingham and Derby Active Play Centres Start Life Under Management of National Experts 

The former Hickory Dickory Active Play centres in Birmingham and Derby will enter 2025 under new management and will be known as Berzerk Birmingham and Berzerk Derby. 
 
The rebranding of the centres, which provide active play to children, comes after national active play experts Trilogy Active took ownership of the facility at the end of 2024. 
 
“At Berzerk we believe, support, promote and deliver evidence based Active Play that benefits the cognitive, social and physical development of children across the UK.” said Managing Director of Trilogy Active John Fletcher. 
 
“As a not-for-profit organisation we operate Active Play facilities across the Midlands with venues in Northampton, Derby and Birmingham.” he added. “We work in partnership and deliver services for Local Authorities, the NHS and Universities in the communities that we serve and are delighted to be taking Berzerk Birmingham and Derby in to 2025 and beyond.” 
 
Berzerk Birmingham and Derby are open 7 days a week 9.30am to 6pm and are home to a large playframe areas packed with entertainment, separate play areas for under 11’s and under 5’s a number of slides, balls pools, trampolines, ball canons and a sports arena with an astro turf football and basketball pitch. 
 
“We believe and promote the active play environment which stimulates brain function, development and physical literacy.” John Fletcher continued. “Berzerk is also a place where children build skills and traits such as confidence, resilience, self-esteem, independence and where they develop gross motor development and fine motor development skills.” 
 
The popular centres, which also provides regular free additional activities and events during school holidays will see a programme of maintenance and infrastructure improvements take place across 2025. 
 
That work has began in earnest with a new, easy to use website where bookings for sessions and parties can be made easily.

Trilogy Active Delivery of Government Backed Programme Delivers to Thousands of Local Children and Families 

Just under £37,000 committed to fund 1680 spaces for Summer 2024. 
 
A government-funded programme that ensures disadvantaged children and young people have access to healthy food and enriching activities throughout school holiday periods has benefited thousands of families across Northamptonshire. 
 
The Holiday Activities and Food Programme (HAF) scheme, known locally as HAF Northants, is delivered by Trilogy Active, in partnership with Northamptonshire Sport, who have been offering places for children on their 2 holiday play schemes at Lings Forum Leisure Centre and Duston Sports Centre, a bespoke HAF Sports Camp at Thomas Becket School, as well as offering places for children at Berzerk Active Play Centre. 
 
“We are genuinely pleased at the real difference our work on HAF is making to the local community that we serve across Northampton.” said Managing Director of Trilogy Active John Fletcher. “We have been able to offer just under 3,000 places to young people over the last twelve months and have given 120 junior active memberships to 14 to 16 years old’s.” he said. 
 
Trilogy Active operates Cripps Recreation Centre, Danes Camp, Duston Sports Centre, Lings Forum, The Mounts Baths and the Forum Cinema as well as Berzerk Active Play Centre in Northampton as well as Belper Leisure Centre and the Hickory Dickory Active Play Centres in the Midlands. 
 
The success of the programme has been highlighted by the Mother of one participant, a young person with disabilities who wanted to access the service. 
 
Following a conversation and meeting with Trilogy Active’s Health & Wellbeing Development Manager, care was specifically organised for the young person to ensure Trilogy could meet his needs. 
 
“Following the conversation with Trilogy Active and then arriving on the day we knew that staff were fully briefed. This gave me confidence that my son was going to be well cared for.” said the child’s Mum. 
 
“I had got to the stage that I wouldn’t generally ask if he would be welcome in this type of session because I got used to the answer being no and that being it.” she added. 
 
“It was my husband that encouraged me to ask the questions and we have been delighted with Trilogy’s response.” 
 
“Across our sites at Berzerk, Thomas Becket, Lings Forum and Duston Sports Centre we have been able to use over £57,000 of funding during the last twelve months to make a real impact and ensure children and families benefit from this important project.” John Fletcher, the Managing Director of Trilogy Active said.
